What is Steam Researcher?

Steam Researcher is a free, open-source market research tool designed for indie game developers. It analyzes publicly available Steam data to help developers find game categories where player demand is high but existing products are underperforming.

Core Methodology

We use a 5-dimension scoring model to evaluate each game and category:

Market Demand — Review count and concurrent player numbers
Competitor Quality — Positive review rates of existing games
Market Saturation — Total game count in the category
Pain Intensity — Negative review volume and patterns
Revenue Potential — Price range analysis and revenue estimation

By combining these dimensions, we calculate a 0-100 "Opportunity Score" that highlights categories where "players want something better but don't have it yet."

Data Sources

All data is sourced from Steam (Valve Corporation) through publicly available APIs. Steam Researcher is not affiliated with Valve or Steam.
